چکیده

We introduce a family of logics that are particularly useful for reasoning with uncertainty. The consequence relations considered here are deened by a simple and natural semantics, and have many desirable properties. In particular, these relations are nonmonotonic, paraconsistent, adaptive in the sense of Batens, plausibility logics in the sense of Lehmann, and rational in the sense of Lehmann and Magidor. Abstract We introduce a family of logics that are particularly useful for reasoning with uncertainty. The consequence relations considered here are deened by a simple and natural semantics, and have many desirable properties. Reasoning with Different Levels of Uncertainty

We introduce a family of preferential logics that are useful for handling information with different levels of uncertainty. The corresponding consequence relations are nonmonotonic, paraconsistent, adaptive, and rational. It is also shown that the formalisms in this family can be embedded in corresponding four-valued logics with at most three uncertainty levels, and that reasoning with these lo...

Distance-based paraconsistent logics

We introduce a general framework that is based on distance semantics and investigate the main properties of the entailment relations that it induces. It is shown that such entailments are particularly useful for non-monotonic reasoning and for drawing rational conclusions from incomplete and inconsistent information. Some applications are considered in the context of belief revision, informatio...

Kinds of Inconsistency∗†

Typically paraconsistency is motivated by one of two types of arguments: either an ontological argument is given whereby it is claimed that inconsistent objects or events of some kind demand a logic able to reason about such items, or an epistemological argument is provided that denies that language or the world is infected with inconsistency but claims instead that the problem is all in a reas...

A reconstruction of Signed Systems for Paraconsistent Reasoning within the Adaptive Logic Program

In [6] Besnard and Schaub elaborated a novel approach to paraconsistent reasoning which lead to a family of paraconsistent consequence relations. In a sense these try to safeguard classical reasoning within the range of paraconsistent theories. For that they rely on a transformation of the original inconsistent theory into a consistent one by renaming all literals present in the theory. The res...

An Adaptive Characterization of Signed Systems for Paraconsistent Reasoning∗

In this paper we characterize the six (basic) signed systems from [18] in terms of adaptive logics. We prove the characterization correct and show that it has a number of advantages.
